Suicidal tendencies on rise in KashmirSrinagar, July 24 : In Kashmir, the suicidal tendencies among Kashmiri youth is showing upward trend with doctors holding various factors responsible. “Yes, the trend is increasing as every day we receive cases of consumption of poisonous substances,” said Medical Superintendent, Soura Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar
“The prevailing conditions have also affected the general health of common man,” he added.
Doctors of another Hospital in Srinagar said that they register 20 to 30 suicidal cases a week mostly in the age group of 18 to 35. “We have been receiving such patients who had consumed poison or any other substance in a bulk. There are many reasons like economic conditions, personal history, education, conflict and trauma,” said Chief Medical Officer, Muhammad Maqbool.
Meanwhile, there has been a widespread over the increase in the sales of psychotropic substances particularly the sedatives during the recent crisis.
