Doctor booked for staging protests against HR violations

Srinagar, July 27: Police has registered a case against some doctors for protesting against the recent killings.  The doctors’ associations have decided to meet tomorrow to discuss the issue and chalk out their strategy. Police confirmed the registration of case against doctors at Karanagar police station but did not reveal as to how many doctors have been booked. A doctor, however, said that a case has been registered against four doctors.  The doctors had held silent sit-in against the killings at the complex of Government Medical College here on Saturday.

Police have registered a case against a dozen doctors of Government Medical College.
Police registered an FIR (No. 11/2010) against them in police station Karan Nagar for various ‘offences.’

A senior police official said that a case has been registered against the doctors, most of whom are doing their post-graduation from GMC and had taken part in the sit-in protests.
“They have been booked under various sections including 147 (guilty of rioting) 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of RPC,” he said.

Puppet Minister for medical education, R S Chib told Greater Kashmir that action has been initiated against the doctors. “There were some 30 doctors who participated in the protests. But action has been initiated against four doctors, who were leading the protests. They instigated people and raised anti-Indial slogans,” Chib said. He said police has registered a case and were carrying out investigations.

Doctors’ fraternity has taken strong exception to the high-handedness of the government. “Now even peaceful protests are a sin before this government,” a doctor said.

Meanwhile, Employees Joint Action Committee (Q) has threatened massive protests if the FIR against its president Abdul Qayoom Wani for leading protest demonstrations against the human rights violations is not withdraws immediately. Police has registered an FIR against Wani in police station Shaheed Gunj for organizing protests against the human rights abuses and arrest of youth.
