Police yet to register FIR, family demands justice

Srinagar, September 04, 2010: The family of a teenager Omar Qayoum Bhat. 17, of Soura, who died last week after being brutally tortured by police in custody, has said that police was not registering an FIR in the case. The family has sought justice for their only son and demanded punishment to the police officers who tortured him in custody.

15 injured in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sept 04 : At least fifteen persons were injured in fresh clashes as Valley observed complete strike in response to the call given by Syed Ali Gilani on Saturday. Reports and eyewitnesses said that six persons were injured in pitched battles between protesters and the forces in Kurhama in Ganderbal.

Arrests, atrocities cannot suppress ongoing movement: Jamaat

Srinagar, September 4: Jamaat-Islami on Saturday has said that the arrests and atrocities cannot suppress the ongoing “Quit Kashmir Movement.” “New Delhi needs to acknowledge the ground realities rather than beating round the bush. It has to accept Kashmir as a dispute and allow people to decide their future,” a Jamat spokesman said in a statement here.

Srinagar, September 4: A mujahid got martyrdrum and an Inddian trooper was killed in a gunfight in Bandipore district, on Saturday.

Peer Saifullah arrested

Srinagar, September 3: Police on Friday arrested Senior Hurriyat (G) leader and Acting General Secretary of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Peer Saifullah from a residential house at Shankerpora Budgam. As per police sources, Saifullah was arrested at around 7:30 PM.

Srinagar, September 3: Dozens peaceful protestors including a woman were today injured in paramilitary and police violent actions in the Kashmir Valley including in Baramulla town where troops opened fire on protestors.

Srinagar, September 03: Terming protests in Kashmir valley as spontaneous and peaceful, a renowned Indain social activist, Swami Agnivesh, who headed an eight-member delegation to the valley, said that the time was ripe for India to initiate a fruitful dialogue for the Kashmir problem. I also feel a humane touch is needed to deal with the situation.
